Bridgelings are one-of-one creatures, made from a single person's answers. It starts with five simple questions, about a memory, a feeling, an object, a color, a word. From the answers, I research and, through symbolism, intuition, and association, arrive at 4 figurative images tied to what was shared: a flower, an animal, a place, a small personal object, each chosen with intention. I draw each element first as its own recognizable figure. Then, I unite the 4 elements through folding, stretching, symmetry, repetition, transparency, and layering, I slowly abstract them, breaking the figurative images apart until something new emerges. What's left isn't an illustration of the symbols anymore. It's a creature built from them. The final form often holds a kaleidoscope of creatures inside it - a fox, a bird, a hippo, a bear, sometimes several at once, depending on who's looking and how long they look. That's not a flaw in the process — it's part of it. As the artist, and because I plan to keep building on the Bridgelings as their own world, I give each one a title and my own reading of what it holds. But that's only one way in, each person is free to see and interpret their Bridgeling in their own way. What settles first is often personal, shaped as much by the eyes looking as by the piece itself. Each Bridgeling is $30 USD, delivered as an NFT or a digital file — yours to keep, minted or not.
